I found this chapter to be very informative and interesting. I loved how it took you progressively through the growth of the school library and the actual education system itself. It's amazing when you read some of these things how far we've come (or not). I loved how they gave specific examples of how the Media Specialist helps with curriculum. I've always been aware of how ours helps at a higher elementary level, but wondered how it was done in lower levels. It was pretty obvious once I read (pg 6), that the librarian helps the students recognize letter and sounds (hello! looking for books and titles) and things like nursery rhymes when reading aloud.
Another thing that I found very interesting, and was not aware of before this, was under the heading 'Alternatives to Traditional Education'. The thing that shocked me was that there was once public funding for private education. I guess I always just assumed that tuition paid the costs of the private sector.
Overall this chapter was a really great place to start, and I see myself in the future of this class, and this degree, looking back to check my facts.
